Stockport’s Portage Service:

  • Is a validated and registered Portage Service with the National Portage Association
  • Is funded by the Local Authority
  • Is based at the Overdale Centre in Romiley which has enabled us to develop close links with Bredbury Green Inclusive Nursery, the Overdale Opportunity Group, Stockport CP and Sure Start
  • Has a multi-agency Management Group which has representatives from Children & Young People, Health, Children’s Social Care, Sure Start, the voluntary sector and Portage parents

The Portage Team in Stockport Consists of

  • A Service Manager
  • A Service Consultant (Senior Psychologist for Early Years)
  • A Specialist Portage Early Education Worker in Autism (Senior)
  • A Senior Portage Early Education Worker
  • Four Portage Early Education Workers
  • A Portage Sure Start Worker, based in Adswood/Bridgehall area
  • An Administrator/Outreach worker

Admissions Criteria:

Portage support is open to children who are not attending a local authority nursery and who have delays in two or more areas of their development (i.e. cognitive, physical, communication, socialisation, emotional / behavioural, personal independence).

Referrals:

Portage operates an open referral system for professionals and parents/ carers. Anyone may refer a child but must have obtained parental consent.

Referrals are accepted on a CAF form. Professionals completed forms should be sent to:
