Page Title - Child Development Unit

The Child Development Team provides assessment and support for children pre-school with complex developmental problems.  The aim of the service is to provide early identification, diagnosis and planned intervention to ensure families receive continuity of support from birth enabling children to reach their full potential.

The team consists of two paediatricians, physiotherapists, OT’s, SLT, nursery nurses and a senior nurse practitioner. Referrals are usually through health visitors or other health professionals

All the team members work in partnership with parents/carers and discuss the needs of the child with the family.  There is a clear pathway and structure through the assessment process, which is explained to the families at the beginning and written documentation and reports are given to the families to support the sharing of news about their child.

The Child Development Team has a multi-agency approach and liaises with many other professionals i.e. Portage Service, Dragonfly, Education, Social Services and the Voluntary Sector all of whom contribute additional services to address the total needs of the child and their family.
