What is the Children’s Equipment and Adaptations Service? (CEAS)

An established service funded by Social Services and Primary Care Trust. It works in close partnership with Housing, Education and Social Care and links to many other agencies to provide an effective, integrated equipment and adaptation service to children with disabilities/special needs.

Where is CEAS based?

Within the Children and Young People’s Disability Partnership, 4th Floor, Beckwith House, Stockport.

Who is this service for?

Children with physical disabilities and/or special needs who require an assessment for any adaptations and/or equipment in their own homes.

How can CEAS help?

Specialist Occupational Therapists and Support Staff provide advice and/or assess for equipment and/or adaptations that would address difficulties with activities of daily living in the home, e.g. Access, Bathing, Toileting and Seating.

Who can refer to CEAS?

Parents/Carers, Social Workers, GP, Health Professionals, Teachers or anyone else who feels that a child (0-18) may benefit from an assessment.

What happens after the referral?

The referrer and parent/carer will receive a letter acknowledging the referral and will set out the anticipated time-scales for the assessment to take place.

When is the service available?

Currently there is only a short waiting list (12 weeks approximately).
Initially information and advice is given over the phone where appropriate and then referral is prioritised as accurately as possible.

Where is the service available?

Children are visited within their own homes, or may be seen at school in joint working with other therapists.
