Support for Parents and Carers

Parent Partnership Service

This service offers comprehensive advice and information to parents and carers of children with special educational needs. This includes a range of activities such as help with statutory assessment, letter writing, communicating with school, support at meetings, and advice on accessing other services.

For further information please see the Parent Partnership pages.

Disability Database

The Stockport Disability Database maintains a computer database of information about the health, welfare, and educational needs of children and young people up to 19 years, who have a disability, or special needs and who live in Stockport, or use a Stockport service. Parents and carers joining the database are provided with a pack of information about services for these young people and receive regular updates. The database provides, without identifying individual children or families, vital information to statutory and voluntary organisations to help them plan provide and monitor their services as effectively as possible.

Mediation Service

An independent service is available for parents who are dissatisfied with the proposed provision for their child. The aim of this service is to explore the options available in order to find a practical solution acceptable to all parties and with the minimum disruption to the child’s education. However in the first instance parents and carers will have the opportunity to talk through their concerns with the Special Needs Officers, who can be contacted on 0161 249 4453.
