Special Educational Needs
Children with special educational needs all have disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. These children may need extra or different help and support.
Children with Disabilities

ASD Partnership Project
The project offers a person-centred approach, supporting families with an autistic spectrum disorder, aged 5-15. The team is able to work in both homes and schools providing a range of help and support with issues such as behaviour management, communication strategies and understanding the diagnosis. The project runs a monthly parent support group and delivers a range of training packages.
Stockport's Portage Service
Portage is a borough wide Education and support service for Pre School children aged 0-4 years with additional needs / disabilities and their families.
Stockport Disability Database
The database aims to empower parents and carers by providing information about all the services in Stockport that are available, including benefits, leisure activities, health, social care and education opportunities.
Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service
A service providing assessment, diagnosis, advice and treatment for children with a range of speech, language and communication needs. Treatment may be offered on an individual or group basis. This service is for children up to the age of 16 years (19 years if they have a learning disability and are in special education).
Children's Physiotherapy Service
The Children’s Physiotherapy Department provides a range of evidence based physiotherapy interventions for all children in Stockport aged from 0 to 16 who have a physical impairment or disability or are in need of rehabilitation following an acute period of illness or orthopaedic surgery for neurological conditions.
Children's Occupational Therapy Service
The Children's Occupational Therapy Service is committed to providing a child and family centred needs led service in the most appropriate setting to support individual children and their families. The aim of Occupational Therapy is to promote functional independence in all aspects of daily life.
Children's Equipment and Adaptations Service
The Children’s Equipment and Adaptations Service is an established service funded by Social Services and Primary Care Trust. It works in close partnership with Housing, Education and Social Care and links to many other agencies to provide an effective, integrated equipment and adaptation service to children with disabilities/special needs.
Inclusive Services Co-Ordinator
Inclusive Services Co-Ordinator is a strategic post located within Stockport Council but which serves on behalf of the Partnership. The postholder links with providers, services, and users in order to ensure that disabled children and young people are able to access fully inclusive opportunities in the fields of childcare, play, leisure and culture.
Parent Partnership Service
The Stockport Parent Partnership Service offers independent advice, information and support to parents and carers to ensure that their views on their child's special educational needs are understood and respected by all those involved in decision making.
Stockport School Nursing Service
Every school has a named school nurse, who aims to help children reach their full potential. This is done by helping children with health problems that may affect their ability to learn, or their enjoyment of school.
Dragonfly Project
The Dragonfly team is a Children's Palliative Care team based in the Treehouse Children’s Centre at Stepping Hill Hospital.We are a small team who provide a range of home and community support for children resident in Stockport with life limiting and life threatening conditions.
Children's Community Learning Disability Team
The Children’s Community Learning Disability team offers services to children who have a severe learning disability.
Child Development Unit (CDU)
The Child Development Team provides assessment and support for children pre-school with complex developmental problems. The aim of the service is to provide early identification, diagnosis and planned intervention to ensure families receive continuity of support from birth enabling children to reach their full potential.
Stockport's Inclusion Team
Stockport’s Inclusion Team is a teaching support service for pupils with ASD, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) attending mainstream or resourced provision in nurseries, primary and secondary schools.
