Stockport have been allocated £1,895,600 in funding and acknowledge that parents with disabled Children are experts in their child’s needs, and can help us to transform services for all children and families. Involving parent carers at all levels of planning and developing services is the best way of creating cost effective and responsive services that work for families.
We also realise that children and young people have their own ideas about how they would like to spend time on a Short break and we will be finding out their views and suggestions to help plan and deliver services.
Parent groups in 97% of English local authority areas have been allocated funding to help them have a say in planning and shaping disabled children’s services.
In Stockport the Parent Participation Focus Group has recently been formed and has received funding of £3,200 until 31st March 2009. Some of this funding was spent on a fun day on the 22nd March 09 where all parents with disabled children were invited to come along and find out more about the Focus Group and to encourage parents to get involved in local decision making. The day was a big success with many requests for it to be repeated. The next funding bid is now being prepared.
The Children and Young People Focus group is in the process of being developed if you want to find out more about being involved in this group or the parent focus group please leave your details on the Contact Us form.
