Travel Co-ordination Service

What we do:

We aim to promote inclusive opportunities to enable children and young people with special educational needs to travel to and from school or college independently or by providing the appropriate travel support.

If you wish your child to be considered for Travel Assistance please complete an application form.

If you wish to use the interactive Travel Assistance application form, please click here.

Please note: that if your son/daughter is transferring schools in September 2012, i.e. Nursery to Primary, or Primary to Secondary and you wish to be considered for travel support; you need to submit an application.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 20th February 2012. If an application is received after this time, it cannot be guaranteed that any support granted will be in place for the start of the academic year in September 2012.

Please note: in all but exceptional cases, your child needs to be in receipt of a Statement of Special Education to apply. If your child doesn’t have a statement but you would like to be considered please contact us on the numbers below and we will be more then happy to discuss the possible options with you.

Once this form has been received a member of the Travel Co-ordination Service will contact you to arrange a meeting to discuss the travel support solutions available to you and to gather all the necessary information, in order to ensure the needs of your child are best met and the support is appropriate.

If you have any queries or questions on the completion of the application form; or would like a paper copy, please contact us on the numbers below.

Additionally all children requesting travel assistance will be assessed for independent travel training.

Children will work on a 1:1 basis with travel trainers to learn the Home to School route.

In doing so they will develop their independence and social skills while at the same time we ensure their safety is paramount.

There is an expectation that where it is considered appropriate children will be put forward for such training.

For more information on travel training please contact the transport team on:0161 249 4450 / 0161 249 4426 / 0161 249 4457 or alternatively you can email TravelCo-ordination@stockport.gov.uk

The team are also responsible for issuing bus pass application forms which entitle all statemented children to free travel.

Please contact the team if you wish to request a bus pass application form. When you have completed the application form it should be sent back to the office, it is then collated by the team and sent to the GMPTE.

Non-Statemented children wanting a Bus Pass still go through via Pupil Services (Admissions)
